Contention

Pursuant to Baciolato Curatorial E.1 & I.3 LBaciolato Codex rule of Aesthetic law, initiator Nostalgia represented by Architect Flirt wishes to file a contention against the uncarried night also known as the Met Gala.

An almost unnoticeable change has been observed throughout the years until suddenly it all became too visible. It's seen everywhere, it's almost impossible to notice. But it became completely forgettable. It no longer carried the impact it once did.

Grievance 1 - Presence vs. Endurance

The Met Gala has been extremely noticeable in recent years. It carries presence. It travels through time seamlessly and has adapted quite easily to changes and new eras. At least, that is the perception that has been given. Presence creates memory, but presence alone cannot carry what fails to evolve as time is.

It definitely endured. That's probably the reason why it is where it currently is. If we were talking about endurance alone, it would definitely be at the top of the list. However, what is being aestherted here is: Will Taste ever return as the main criteria to attend? As recent observation has demonstrated that having a recognizable name is enough to obtain an invitation without proving that taste has been acquired.

Grievance 2 - Curation vs. Risk

Baciolato C I.3 stipulates "Anything too perfect begins to die". In this instance, perfection is referring to the idea of the Met gala being overly curated. Everything does work to perfection. It all feels seamless and flawless. Not a needle moves without approbation, which on the surface, is an absolute dream. However the Memorium has also recognized that it looks soulless. It's no longer about great fashion, but a parade of public figures.

The other issue raised is regarding risks and missteps. The Met Gala gets to a stage of predictability. The theme changes every year, but the behavior does not. We know what will happen before it even does. Who's early, who's on time, who's late. It's no longer exciting. It provides great fashion, but beyond that, the predictability is slowly replacing excitement by annoyance.

The same faces everywhere. The same designers dressing people over and over again. The same best dressed and worst dressed lists that get people to question their own taste as some might appear in the best dressed section and everyone wonders why. The Gala itself is unable to provide an answer to that question as it feels like their name is what carries them onto that list.

Grievance 3 - Visibility vs. Impact

Baciolato C E.1 stipulates "Visual Chaos." In this instance, chaos is not about the vision or the structure of the event itself. Chaos is about the visibility process. It's seen everywhere, it's heavily promoted. What used to feel like the event of the year is now feeling like a sophisticated billboard ad.

It's heavily promoted. All the headlines in the newscycle that night is all about what happened at the event. Who was present and what was worn. No one can go past these topics. The reporting ends up feeling the same everywhere. Furthermore, when posing, it all seems blend and boring. There's no risk, it's just a safe choice.

On the other hand, the impact it used to have? It no longer does. It's forgotten after a week. An event that used to carry months can barely carry a week nowadays. Where's the influence? Where's the impact?

If it's visible everywhere, but remembered nowhere, can it still be considered heavily influential. It does not affect the industry throughout the year. Where does the impact go then? This is the Aesthertion we are looking to demonstrate.
